The first thing I discovered is that using coconut oil for your hair will make it very soft! There is a lot of information out there about how great it is for your hair, however little is said about how soft it makes it! Place a little bit on the tips of your long hair and smooth the remaining into the rest of your hair. If you use just a little, you can go about your day without notice. If you put a lot on, then leave it for about 1/2 hr before you wash it out.
The second thing I discovered was that when I noticed that my thumb joints were hurting again “out of the clear blue sky” I asked myself what I was doing differently. I realized that I had been under so much stress that for about 2 weeks I had forgotten to take my usual 1 or 2 coconut oil capsules a day. I added them back into my routine and after 3 or 4 days the joint pain went away!
I also noticed (especially in the summer) that coconut oil on the feet works wonders! If you live primarily in flip flops or barefooted, no matter how much lotion you put on your feet you have cracks and your toes will get dry. The coconut oil worked wonders on both AND and made my toenails much more pliable and healthy looking. If your feet are in dire need of treatment, you may want to put on some socks to help the oil soak in.
You may want to try some chunks of coconut meat, shredded coconut or flaked coconut as your morning or afternoon snack. It is great by itself or can be mixed with nuts or fruit. Shredded coconut purchased in the store is sweetened but natural flakes are not. For a little variety, I mix about 1/3 sweetened to 2/3 natural. This is an excellent “treat” that hits the spot no matter what time of day you choose!
Add a little coconut water to your orange juice! I freeze the coconut water that I don’t use right away in a shallow pan, break it up into chunks and then just plop a chunk into the orange juice. OJ with a snap!
There are hundreds of uses for this wonderful food. My thumbs are literally UP for coconut on all counts!
