Education and the Complete Individual

Education are some things that a lot of have said much about. Most of those are complex or vague. Consider the Greek philosopher Aristotle’s saying that education is ‘an ornament in prosperity’ and ‘a refuge in adversity’. There are an excellent many attempts to elucidate this description, but none have quite succeeded in satisfying my curiosity. Alternatively, this is often what English essayist Joseph Addison has got to say on education: What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to a person’s soul. This too, features a great many explanations and elaborations. But does it really tell us what education is? Does it tell us why we’d like education? Not really, since the concept of the soul is, till date, a shadowy area. So how can we start to grasp what everyone claims is important to life nowadays? to place it simply, education may be a process of coaching our mind in order that we will apply it during a field of our choice: which is why we’ve education not as one seamless entity, but as an entire made from various divisions: music education, scientific and technological education, art education, even teacher education!

Education are often considered almost like picking and eating a fruit. Picking a specific fruit on the tree is like choosing a field to urge an education of. once we bite into it, we get our first taste of the topic . As we chew on the bitten portion, we start to know its various aspects – the tastes, textures, intricacies and complexities of it – and once we are able to advance to subsequent portion, we swallow what we’ve assimilated thus far in order that it are often used for further application. The tree we get the fruit from is that the entire body of past thinkers’ teachings and therefore the voice that tells us which fruit to select is that the interpreter of that knowledge: the teacher.

Throughout the lifelong course of education (no, it isn’t like school or college which ends after a hard and fast period of time), we get to understand about things that always were, still are and always are going to be around us, waiting to be recognized and acknowledged. Light plays a central role in education – both literally and metaphorically – for visual inputs are the simplest learnt and without light – of the sun or electrical – we might be missing out on an entire world of data . In fact, this is often where phrases like ‘light of knowledge’, ‘throw light on the matter’, ‘kept within the dark’ then on came from.

You might be thinking, how can we narrow the infinite field of data to pick what we’ll need or want to know? this is often where the part on ‘training the mind’ comes in. The mind, as psychology tells us, is that the centre of cognitive faculties which enables consciousness, thinking, perception and judgement. it’s the kitchen for the knowledge we acquire, where we will season and prepare the bits and pieces of knowledge into comprehensive knowledge. like all good kitchen, the mind has infinite capabilities (which is usually the rationale for confusion among us youth when it involves choosing a specific field to ‘specialize in’ for higher education) and thus must be trained so as to form this choice clearer as every good chef must know what to or to not use for a dish. Unfortunately, the planet we sleep in doesn’t allow us to experiment with our capabilities without being ostracized or reduced to penury. Thus the necessity for specialization. And thus the necessity for education.

Education isn’t just a pathway to money, as is usually considered nowadays. the very fact that it provides a doorway to affluence is secondary. Education is first and foremost, I believe, a source of joy and pleasure that’s also a way of enhancing our capabilities. it’s a landing that gives us with infinite doorways to settle on to continue into, each resulting in a special yet interconnected walk of life (after all, how can we forget that science and philosophy, despite being ‘at odds with one another’ return beyond human comprehension?).

The needs of the human so as to steer a productive and satisfactory life have long been debated. Yet one point stands clear during this debate: along side the essential necessities of food, clothing and shelter, education is extremely necessary, especially in today’s material world. After all, without education, one cannot gain employment and without employment, one cannot fulfil his/her basic needs and is taken into account a failure by modern society.
