Take Care Of That Hair – The Do’s and Dont’s After a Hair Transplantation Surgery

Getting a hair transplant surgery is only the beginning to a relatively long process that will eventually leave you satisfied with your new look. What follows is the taking care of your hair and scalp in the right manner to give you as much relief as possible. It is of paramount importance that you keep in mind the following hair care tips after your surgery.

Post Operative Care and Follow Ups
Do not hesitate to ask your doctor for any information regarding follow ups after your hair transplantation. The doctor will require a few post-op sessions that you should avoid missing. During these sessions you will be given proper guidance on how to care for the newly transplanted hair.

• Taking care of your scalp and scar
The area that has been affected by the procedure often becomes sensitive and this may cause some pain initially. It’s best to stay away from direct sunlight and use sunscreen with high SPF levels. Your scalp may also be irritable for some time and the inevitable scars may cause itchiness. Your doctor may recommend a cream that you could apply to the swollen region and scars.

• Keep your head elevated

To avoid any further swelling it is also recommended that you sleep with your head elevated at an angle of 45 degrees. If it is possible for you to sleep on a reclining chair it is better. This will only be required for the first couple of days.

• Avoid Any Strenuous Activity
Sweating more than required exposes you to infections. This is why your doctor will tell you to refrain from any physical activity such as running, swimming and working out for the first couple of weeks.

• Avoid Eating Spicy Food and Consuming Alcohol
Smoking, drinking and eating spicy food will directly affect your metabolism and hence, it is important to curb these activities so that you heal faster.

• Immediate care
Self medication is not advisable as it may cause complications. Please contact your doctor in case any unexpected signs show up.

• Keep Your Scalp Clean
Maintaining a required level of cleanliness is very important and your doctor will guide you on how to wash your hair. He will most likely recommend a shampoo that has been specifically designed for this purpose. It is of utmost importance that all dirt, blood and sweat are removed to avoid any infections.

• Maintain Required Moisture Level
The area of your scalp needs to be kept moist so as to promote healing and avoid any itchiness or dryness that may lead to flaking of your hair. You may have to spray saline water at regular intervals till your first wash.
